Celtics Rout Mavericks In Game 1 Of Nba Finals

Celtics rout Mavericks in Game 1 of NBA Finals

Porzingis returns, scores 20 points in debut

Kristaps Porzingis recorded 20 points (8-13 FG) and six rebounds for the Boston Celtics in their 107-89 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night.

It was Porzingis' first game back after missing the last 10 games due to injury. The Celtics center showed no signs of rust as he knocked down a pair of three-pointers and was a force on the boards.

"I feel good," Porzingis said after the game. "I'm just glad to be back out there with my teammates. We played great tonight and we're excited to be up 1-0 in the series."

The Celtics led by just two points at halftime, but they pulled away in the third quarter thanks to a 12-0 run. Porzingis was a key part of that run, as he scored six points and grabbed two rebounds.

The Mavericks never recovered from that run and the Celtics cruised to victory.

"Kristaps was huge for us tonight," said Celtics coach Ime Udoka. "He gave us a big lift on both ends of the floor. He's a tough matchup for any team and he's going to be a big part of our success in this series."

Game 2 of the NBA Finals will be played on Friday night in Boston.

Conclusion

Porzingis' return is a major boost for the Celtics, who are now the favorites to win the NBA championship.
